Projekty

Ensuring distribution of food aid and enhancement of food bank

The aim of the project is to ensure the efficient storage and distribution of rescued and purchased food for people in need through the Czech Federation of Food Banks' own logistics system. (1) Storage is ensured through its own logistics centre based in Prague. The logistics centre offers 2,200 m² of storage space, is equipped with freezing and cooling boxes with a total capacity of 80 pallets, a loading ramp, professional handling equipment. (2) Distribution involves transporting the food to the central logistics centre and to the individual warehouses of the 15 regional food banks, from where the food is further distributed to those in need. This process is carried out either through cooperating charities or directly through the newly established network of Food Aid Distribution Points.

We use the project to cover:
(1) Project portion (we use for (a) key operating costs for the truck purchased in 2023, which significantly strengthens the Federation's logistics capacity with its 18 pallet capacity and ability to transport refrigerated and frozen food. Costs include fuel, insurance and tolls, driver wages, and other operating expenses related to vehicle maintenance and operations. (b) Operating costs associated with smaller commercial vehicles (fuel, insurance).
(2) Flexible portion we use the funds as needed for costs associated with the core business (handling equipment, labor costs, energy, distribution, etc.). In addition, for the co-financing of an investment project (expansion of distribution self-sufficiency by purchasing a smaller truck, replacement of vans and cars with alternative fuel types, increase in energy self-sufficiency by installing photovoltaic panels).

By supporting the project, the Czech Federation of Food Banks will gain long-term sustainability of its activities towards to efficient distribution of food aid to people in need.
